lecturer: Prof. Jens Lehmann
In times of increasingly difficult conditions for fossil hunting, attention is focussed on localities that are actively promoted. The lecture will focus on the Åsen fossil site in southern Sweden. It is located near the town of Kristianstad. But the evening will not just be about palaeontology, it will also be about the geology of the region, which owes so much to its former economic mainstay, the ceramics industry. It settled here 100 years ago due to the occurrence of porcelain clay. The talk will shed light on the connection between porcelain clay, fossilised oysters and shark teeth and also present the opportunities for collecting fossils in Åsen.
